Mel took his first outing in his service dog training. I’ve been using the campus for most of the public desensitization since it is a dog friendly college and he’s excellent at petsmart so I decided he was ready for something more challenging. So we went into a CVS on the first day of school lol. It wasn’t horrible but I wanted him to work more with crowds in a new location. He is a champ at ignoring the students, even in crazy student union freshmen events. He did great minus a few bumps. He was weirded out by the way the lines maybe (he kept staring at them and then glancing at me) or he could just be thinking self check-out machines are just as ridiculous as I do. He also is still spooked by puddles being splashed and sometimes sniffs the ground.

At home he’s in the process of learning how to pick up a dropped item/retrieve a needed item, open and close a door, and to work a light switch.

I’ll see about getting him into flyball activities as well once I get my school workload organized.

So Mel’s making good progress all around. Hopefully by the end of the semester he will be ready for full days of working.
